9.1. Multi-Factor Authentication

Multi-factor authentication is a method used when single-factor authentication is not enough to ensure security, and usually introduces multiple ways to verify user identity. Authentication methods can be knowledge-based authentication, i.e. passwords; item-based authentication, such as hardware keys; or feature-based authentication, such as biometrics including fingerprints.
